LIBE 467 Lesson 6 - General and Special Encyclopedias

Discussion: Encyclopedias 

       Many classmates agree that Wikipedia is a great source for the start of a project, but shouldn't be used as a resource for a project or as the only source.  Most said that they would use electronic forms of established encyclopedias instead.  Several classmates suggested the World Book Encyclopedia Online as a great online resource.  I'll definitely keep that in mind for future research projects.

Reflection: Role of the TL

Riedling doesn’t discuss the TL’s role as an instructional partner.  She talks about the TL role as a teacher, an informational specialist and program administrator, but doesn’t include the collaborative aspect of our role.  TL works cooperatively with classroom teachers on developing curriculum and teaching practices.  Riedling’s perspective is lacking the collaborative element but focuses heavily on the informational leadership and expertise portion of our role.

Activity: Importance of questioning in the research model

Questioning is a large portion in most of the research models.  In some cases, it involves several steps, either narrowing the topic/focus or revising the question.
